Report: Masahiro Tanaka has Bone Spur Removed

The Yankees announced today that their ace, Masahiro Tanaka, underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow. Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News reported that this was a pre-exisiting condition dating back to his days in Japan and was not related to his partially torn UCL that generated a lot of concern throughout the season:

Tanaka went 12-7 with a 3.51 ERA in twenty-four games started in 2015. Tanaka’s rehab will comprise of six weeks of strengthening his elbow, followed by a throwing program. All reports indicate that he will be ready to go come spring training. In two years stateside, Tanaka has dealt with injuries each year. He has yet to surpass 30 starts or 200 innings in a season. The right-hander is 25-12 with a 3.16 ERA in his first 44 starts in the Bronx, and is signed through the 2019 season.
